Broken Patterns - 2nd 7"

my band Broken Patterns just finally had our 2nd 7" come out on Six Feet Under Records. much like the first 7", i designed and hand screen printed the covers for all 500 copies pressed. have a look at the finished product!

Some old test prints....

while trying to make some room in the flat files this weekend i uncovered some cool old test prints! for those not familiar with the screen printing process, test prints are used by printers while working on a design to check screen registration and color. over time these things start to look really interesting, sometimes more so than the actual job on press, so i'll often pull them aside and save them. have a look.....

these are now up for sale in my Etsy store, check them out if you're interested in purchasing them.

The Love Below - Demo

check out this demo CD from southern california's The Love Below.... excellent illustrations and type treatment by Eric Marshall. i love the symmetry to the cover art and the subtle sexual references hidden in the details. didn't take a pic of the cd face cause it's just a drawing of a dick, and we don't all need to see that. these guys have a record due out soon on A389 Records, can't wait to see what that looks like...

Blacklisted - Eccentrichine 7"

just finally got some copies of this record when Blacklisted rolled thru socal on tour.... earlier this year i made a post about a limited edition art print that i designed and screen printed for Blacklisted to be sold with the release of their Eccentrichine ep on Six Feet Under Records, but didn't have an actual copy of the record to post pictures. so here it is, the record is officially out and looks great! i love it when that happens...

awesome hand made cd's by Kid Sister Records....

i've always kinda been on the fence about cd's in regards to this blog.... but Harrison over at Kid Sister Records sent some copies of these awesome hand made releases to check out, and they are way to good not to blog about.

first up is the Antilles s/t ep. this is the 2nd press edition, 100 copies. the covers are screen printed front and back with hints of spray paint on a nice 100lb card stock. these things are straight up screened right over the disk! it blows my mind that this even worked!

the packaging for this Grown Ups cd is pretty noteworthy as well.... look at the amount of time they put into assembling these. made with 100% recycled paper, these covers were screen printed, cut, folded, and then fashioned with kite string so that the cd remains contained inside the jacket.

the disk face was spray painted and stamped as well....

a folded 8.5" x 11" sheet of yellow paper gets photocopied and folded for a a lyric sheet that is near impossible to read, yet looks cool.

if you'd like to hear these releases (or any of the other Kid Sister releases), you can check them out for free here...

RRR - a group show opening this weekend!

a good friend is throwing a huge group show titled "RRR" at The Surf Gallery in Laguna Beach and the opening reception is this Saturday night! the theme for the show is "reduce, reuse, recycle your art", and it will litterally be a show comprised of the scraps from some pretty amazing artists. the three pics below are of the collage pieces i will be showing. they are a mix of screen printed test prints from my artwork and original pencil, ink, and watercolor works.

this final collage was made at the same time as the three above, but will be going to a private auction to benefit Shelly's cancer therapy.

for more info about the art show, visit RRR projects and The Surf Gallery directly.
