Sick Sick Birds - Gates Of Home Lp

Toxic Pop Records recently sent over this new Sick Sick Birds lp for review...  the layout for the entire record is themed around vintage photographs which depict the most classic of Americana imagery: the great west.  the bright yellow and purple duotone color pallet really gives these old images a fresh new perspective.  styled perfectly with some informal hand scrawled typography at the bottom of the panel, the cover was left largely to the sentiment of the image to tell the story of the record...

these covers were professionally offset printed and glued on a standard 12" cover sleeve.  the back cover has a nice up close and abstracted shot of an old wooden fence.  all the song titles were left as hand writing just like on the front cover, but there was more of an effort being placed on working them into the photo as design.

there is a one sided black and white insert folded inside this record as well.  another image of a man and his horse is sitting at the top, while the lyrics fall scattered below.  i like that they were able to work in some hand written lyrics to the design over the photograph, it adds the right amount of texture and creates interest for what would be an otherwise straightforward design...

A and B labels carry out the color story and theme of the jacket nicely.  i really like the A side label personally....
