Sloane Peterson - Second Chances Ep...

here's a fun record I came across the other day, the Sloane Peterson "Second Chances" ep... It's not a new record, but the front and back cover art by "ZZ Zootrivitch" is pretty great. Really nice sketchbook-styled illustration work that has been scanned and mixed with some hand-set "letraset" lettering. It's humorous, raw, and most of all well done...

the back panel almost has a storyboard feel to it, as the same characters from the front illustration are used again and are depicting an evolution of events. The only thing I'm not crazy about is thick black boarder that traps everything inside, it kinda makes it feel like a bad comic book instead of just being a rad rough illustration....

the covers were professionally offset printed with black ink on 100lb glossy white paper, cut and folded but not glued. There is an insert as well, a 7" x 7" double sided black and white photocopied sheet. Liner notes and really awkward band pics on this side, the layout is actually pretty interesting! It's not knocking my socks off or anything, but it looks good for sure....

On the flipside is where the lyrics live, everything is centered, legible and framed well on the page....

Here is a shot of the A side label, it's super straightforward and very understated, I'm glad they kept the letraset type theme going...

B side label has drawing of the little creature from the back cover isolated and hanging off to the side s bit..... Kinda cool, but also feels like they were out of ideas....

Be sure to check out this record if you haven't already, you can get it from Hang Up Records...
