Run Down - 7" ep

i rather like this Run Down 7" that came in as a submission from the good folks over at Firestarter Records.  i love the super abstract ink / watercolor illustration that artist Ryan Trudeau came up with for the cover art!  the balance of light line work and heavy ink blotches worked into the composition make it quite a beautiful piece.  the variation of detail and ink stains, heavy black and heavy white make for a very interesting visual dynamic.  this whole cover has a really great sense of movement with the art being off-placed towards the bottom left corner and the hand written band name off to the top right with a slight italicization.  really great cover...

these are professionally offset printed covers with black ink on heavy white coated cover stock.  there is a half size folded back panel on the flipside where the hand written song titles are displayed.  i am personally always a big fan of hand writing things out small and then scanning them in large, and in this example it worked out well for them....

the front cover unfolds to reveal a black and white offset printed lyric sheet.  here we also see more of Ryan's illustration work as well, and although these are much more literal in terms of their content, they are still pretty great.   i really like every about this insert... the typeset lyrics sitting with the hand written song titles and the sort of wonky spacing of everything is just really pleasing to my eye.  it somehow manages to simultaneously look really loose, yet really tight....

these A and B labels do a nice job of conveying all the important info in a clean and orderly manner.  white vinyl and white labels, another perfect decision for this release....

this whole record is just a sea of white with a meaningful and tasteful use of black ink, and the final product is superb.  grab a copy from Firestarter directly and support a great label...
